Cold day at the park

It was a mild day in a mild winter, and we took Piper to the playground nearby.

She practiced driving the train and racing her daddy on the slide.

The tongue is extended for increased speed.

First trip to the zoo!

Piper had her very first trip to the zoo today! It was a quick visit, as we didn't want to overwhelm the gal on her first time out. But she saw lots of different types of monkeys, giraffes, a zebra, foxes, fish, penguins, and seals. She has read about lots of animals in her books and is able to identify their pictures, but we weren't sure how she would respond to seeing them in person. She seemed to get it and certainly enjoyed telling us the names of the most familiar critters. It sure is fun watching the wheels work in her brain as she understands more and more about the world!

Color?

One of Piper's favorite activities is sitting on the floor and coloring in her coloring book. But, this weekend, when Mom laid down on the floor to help color a picture, Piper discovered that lying on your tummy and coloring is even better than sitting and coloring! She quickly adopted this position as the cool way to color. She now requests "Color?" whenever we're in her playroom and insists that you get prone to help with the project.

Piper's first haircut

As you'll recall, Piper didn't come into the world with much hair on her head. What hair she did have was concentrated in a spike on the top of her head and a mullet in the back. Eighteen months later, the mullet has grown beautifully.

We decided it was time for Piper's first haircut, and that it was best left to professionals.

Piper was not terribly enthused about the project, but decided it was tolerable once the receptionist started blowing bubbles.

She did not appreciate the purple ribbon as a finishing touch.

Once she was home with a snack, all was well.

Piper, Meet Santa: Take Two

You may remember last year's annual daycare Christmas party. This year, Santa was not such a hit with Piper.

In fact, after the traditional sitting-on-the-lap ritual (or an attempt at it), she was pretty much unable to recover.

Toward the end of the event, she was basically just trying to make a break for it.

Ah, well, there's always next year! Thanks for trying, Santa Claus!

Signature style

Whether it's diaper, winter, or salad bowl, hats seem to be Piper's signature style :)
